What Do You Chose?
June celebrates National Indigenous History, Multi-culturalism and Gay Pride. Each of these groups represent people’s unique, beautiful characteristics. As individual as each of us are, we are collectively all the same…people with differences that have families, friends, and desire to live in harmony.
A focus on the latter would help to remind us to respect those differences in order to achieve harmony!
Typically my blogs discuss workplace issues connected to workplace injuries. Given recent events, sharing a reminder that all of us have a responsibility to treat each other with respect. Everyone has a right to choose who they love. Everyone has a right to worship. Everyone has a right to their ancestorial heritage without someone wanting to change them.
Let’s choose love and not hate! Let’s choose inclusion and not exclusion. Let’s choose to understand the other person and their walk. Choose growth and inclusion. Express your choices visibly for all to see your character.
In the workplace, there are laws that protect workers from discrimination—aka the Human Rights Code of Ontario. Employers are duty bound to abide by that law. How is your workplace doing? Is it inclusive? Does it tolerate subtleties of discrimination? Do the “different” people have a voice and are they heard?
Starting with your workplace, consider if it is free of discrimination and whether it encourages an environment of inclusion.
